Chrysler Just Can’t Catch a Break

As I read through the coverage of the 2010 Detroit Auto Show on the popular automotive blogs (Jalopnik, Autoblog, etc), it’s abundantly clear that the most popular blog post isn’t about a car at all….it’s about the lovely ladies that stand next to the cars.  And car makers aren’t stupid…they know to put the models next to the cars that they want to get the most eyeballs.

Chrysler took an interesting approach at this year’s NAIAS.   They had the most booth babes of any car maker but the least number of new cars to show the public.  In fact, only one all-new car appeared at Chrysler’s display  – and it wasn’t even a Chrysler (it was a Lancia).     And now they are taking some flack from reporters about having too many booth babes.   As if Chrysler hasn’t been beaten up enough lately.  A failed marriage with Daimler-Benz, a $14 million bailout from the US Government and now too many booth babes at the Detroit Auto Show! Chrysler is definitely in a transition phase right now.  Fiat just bought a controlling 20% stake in the company.  Apparently, the executives at Fiat decided to lie low at this year’s show, at least when it comes to cars.

Side note…one of the car show models has a blog called ‘Do You Come with the Car?‘ where she talks about her experiences.   Pretty funny stuff.
